AATA to Require Yellow Mcards to be Swiped on Buses The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) has updated its technology with the installation of new fare boxes on its fixed-route buses as of February 6, 2009. Beginning 2/16/09, University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff Mcard holders will be required to swipe their Mcards through the card readers to ride AATA buses. Only current yellow Mcards will be valid in the new fare box readers. There will be a 30 day grace period for Mcard holders to obtain a valid Mcard. After 3/15/09, expired and damaged Mcards will not be accepted on AATA buses for rides at no charge. The regular bus fare would apply. New/replacement Mcards can be obtained at an ID Issuing Station. Please be sure to bring your expired or damaged Mcard to the ID Issuing Station. Link to AATA Press Release: http://theride.org/PRMcards.asp

Take Some Simple Precautions to Avoid Getting Netted by Phishing ScamsInternet “phishing” scams are one of the fastest-growing frauds today. Phishing typically involves a bogus e-mail message that uses legitimate materials, such as a company’s Web site graphics and logos, in an attempt to entice e-mail recipients to provide personal financial details, such as credit card and Social Security numbers. Don't fall for these "official-looking" e-mails requesting personal and/or account information! "Phishing" e-mails have been circulating requesting that people verify account and/or log in information through a link within the e-mail. The link sends people to bogus Web sites for input of account information. These e-mails have appeared to come from such companies as AOL, Yahoo, eBay, PayPal, Citibank, US Bank, Key Bank, Bank One, Bank of America, TCF Bank, U of M Credit Union and many others. Companies do not solicit personal information, especially log on user names/passwords and social security numbers from their customers through e-mail, phone calls, fax, U.S. Mail or Internet advertisements. If you believe you have provided sensitive personal/financial information about yourself through a phishing scam, you should immediately contact your financial institution. In addition, contact the three major credit bureaus and request that a fraud alert be placed on your credit report. Equifax, 1-800-525-6285; Experian, 1-888-397-3742; and TransUnion 1-800-680-7289.
